Faculty and Staff
We have an amazing staff at Bethany Christian School! The faculty and staff are the ambassadors to students, families, and others associated with the school. Their role and function is of paramount significance to the school, whether that role be in the classroom, office, lunchroom, or playground. All strive to fulfill the mission and vision of Bethany Christian School. All employees of the school require a profession of faith in Christ, screening and fingerprinting. A staff member with current training in first aid and CPR is present on campus at all times.
Mrs. Ferrara is the Kindergarten Teacher at Bethany Christian School, and has taught both kindergarten and third grade. She received her BA in Education from Ottawa University, and her Master in Education from University of Phoenix. In her free time, she loves doing anything and everything with her family! She is married to her husband, Anthony, and has four children – Michael, Anthony, Dominic and Bella. They also love their guinea pig, Vincent.
“I love teaching kindergarten! I feel blessed to work at a Christian school where I get to share God’s word with these precious children daily. I love to watch the light bulb go on and see children learn how to read and write! I consider it a true blessing to be a teacher.”
Mrs. Ellis is the First Grade Teacher at Bethany Christian School. She received her BA in Communication from Point Loma Nazarene University and her Masters in Elementary Education from Arizona State University with a certification in ESL. In her free time, she loves reading, hiking and having fun with her family. She is married to her husband, Scot, and has two sons, Tyler and Dylan. They also love their dog, Joey.

Mrs. Lloyd is the First Grade Assistant at Bethany Christian School. She retired from full-time teaching in 2013 after over 20 years in education. She received her BA from Anderson University and MA from Ball State University. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, reading, and watching all types of sports with her husband. She and her husband have two sons, two wonderful daughters-in-love, and a grandson they adore, Jackson.

Miss Witbeck is the Second Grade Teacher at Bethany Christian School. She received her BA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She is passionate about integrating the arts in her teaching. In her free time she loves hiking, painting, watching movies, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Mrs. Sawyers is one of the Third Grade teachers at Bethany Christian School. She received her BS in Liberal Studies from California State University Long Beach and her Masters in Education from Northern Arizona University. In her free time, she enjoys reading and hanging out with her family. She is married to her husband, Marty, and has two children, Makenzie and Connor. They also have two dogs, Lucy and Ricky.

Mrs. West is one of the two fourth grade teachers this year at Bethany Christian School. She has taught for twenty nine years, from kindergarten to college, the majority of which were in Christian schools. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Grand Canyon University, and her Master’s Degree at Arizona State University. Mrs. West is married and has four children. Her hobbies include reading, playing the flute and piccolo, and spending time with family and friends. She is the proud owner of two cats and one “grandcat”.

Mrs. Nichols is a Fifth Grade Teacher at Bethany Christian School. She received her BA in Psychology from Ottawa University. In her free time, she enjoys writing, spending time with her family and eating chocolate. She is married to her husband, Kurt, and has two daughters, Kate and Sara. They also love their lemon beagle, Foxy.

Mrs. Thorneycroft is the Fifth Grade Teacher at Bethany Christian School. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Minnesota State University. In her free time, she enjoys walking, running, hiking, reading, baking, and watching sports on TV. She is married to her husband, Lee, and has three grown children.
“My favorite thing about teaching is making sure my students feel loved and accepted. I enjoy encouraging my students in all sorts of ways. When students feel loved, they tend to learn more.”
Mrs. Rhoades is the Sixth Grade Homeroom Teacher. She teaches 6th grade language arts, 6th – 8th grade history, and Pre-Algebra. She received her BS in Family Studies from Arizona State University and her teaching certification from Ottawa University. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing games, and singing. She is married to her husband, Tyler, and has a daughter, Catherine.
“I love impacting children’s lives for Jesus! I feel very blessed that God brought me to Bethany Christian School years ago, and I am excited to see how He will continue to move at our school.”
Miss Maxwell is the Eighth Grade Homeroom Teacher. She teaches 7th grade grammar, literature, 8th grade Bible, grammar, literature, Middle School Worship Team, and Middle School Performing Arts. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana. This is her fifth year of teaching. She has taught 5th and 6th grade, middle school and high school English, Drama, and Music. In her spare time, Miss Maxwell enjoys playing the piano, watching Chicago sports, doing calligraphy, kickboxing, and crafting.
“I love working at Bethany because I get to teach students to love learning with a passion for our Lord. The community and spirit here is incredible; I have never seen or been a part of anything like it. I am so thankful the Lord brought me to Bethany!”

Mr. York is the computer teacher for 1st – 8th grade, and 7th grade math. He has earned a BA in education, as well as a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also holds a Master’s in Human Development from the University of Kansas. Mr. York has served in three Christian schools prior to joining the staff at Bethany Christian and has taught a variety of subjects throughout grades K-12. He has also served as a school principal. He and his wife, Annise, enjoy movies, old TV shows, Yahtzee, and cheering on their Cornhuskers. They have three grown children – Blake, Joshua, and Ryan.

Coach Wiehl is the Athletic Director and PE Teacher at Bethany Christian School. He has taught and coached for over 20 years. He received his BS in Physical Education from Tennessee Temple University. Prior to working at Bethany Christian School, he coached Mens’ Soccer at Arizona Christian University. He currently coaches Boys’ Soccer at Valley Christian High School. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching his son play college soccer, hiking the various trails in the Valley of the Sun, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He is married to his wife, Melissa, and they have two sons, Taylor and Travis.

Administration and Support Staff:
Administrator, Kary Sterkowitz
Mrs. Sterkowitz is the Administrator at Bethany Christian School. She received her BA and Masters in Education from Arizona State University. She has been in education for over 30 years. In her free time, she and her husband, Joe, enjoy spending time with their family doing just about anything. They have two grown children, Savanna and Paul, and three grandsons, Jordan, Quest, and Levi.

Mrs. Lucci is the Business Manager at Bethany Christian School and coordinates family accounts, HR needs, and school finances. She graduated with her BS in Business Management from University of Phoenix. Prior to working at our school, she held several Office Management and HR positions in the High Tech Software industry. In her free time, she leads worship at her church, reads, and enjoys time with her family. She is married to her husband, Bob, and has two grown daughters, Marisa and Ashley. She also loves her two precious grandchildren, Scarlett and Jaden, and two Australian Shepherd dogs, Lexi and Cody.

Mrs. Lorbeck is the Receptionist at Bethany Christian School, and is usually the first person you will talk to you if you call or visit our school! She received her BS in Quantitative Business Analysis from Arizona State University. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, spending time with family and friends, and watching her nephew play baseball. She is married to her husband, Pete, and has two grown daughters, Kelsey and Kendra.

Ms. Pelton is the Administrative Assistant at Bethany Christian School and also teaches our Yearbook elective for middle school students. She studied at the Salt Lake School of Interior Design. Prior to working at the school, she was an interior designer, pharmacy technician, and worked at the Deer Valley ski resort. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, swimming, playing golf, and cooking. She has two grown children, Jeffrey and Alison, and two dogs, Nugget and Cory.

Mrs. Sass is the School Nurse and has her RN from Yavapai College. Prior to coming to Bethany Christian School, she worked in the Emergency Room at Chandler Regional Hospital and the Cardiac department at HealthWest Regional Medical Center. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, spending time with family and friends, reading, scrapbooking, cooking and baking. She also enjoys watching her son’s sporting events at Valley Christian High School. She is married to her husband, Kevin, and they have a son, Jeremy, two dogs and a guinea pig.

Mrs. Harrison has taken on the role of Student Support this year at Bethany Christian School. Her background is in Elementary Education and she has taught 1st and 2nd grades, as well as middle school grades. After staying home for several years with her children, she went back to work in an elementary school office where she enjoyed the interaction she was able to have not only with the staff and students, but with families as well. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and watching her sons play baseball, basketball and golf. She is married to her husband, Tom, and has two sons – Trey and Jake.

Mrs. Seabrooke is the Admissions Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Extended Care services. Coy is a native of Yuma, Arizona and holds both a BA degree in Sociology and a paralegal certificate. Prior to joining Bethany, she spent many years as the Senior Paralegal for a Houston, Texas-based law firm specializing in toxic tort litigation. She is a former collegiate athlete in volleyball and also competed regionally and nationally in basketball and swimming. In her spare time, Coy enjoys traveling, cooking, watching classic movies, listening to 80’s music, theater set design, and spending time with her family.
